My name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock iii. Great name, I know, but it's not the worst. Parents where I'm from believe that a hideous name will frighten off monsters and the like. And with plenty of those around hunting for demigod children, that would be a very good thing. If it worked, anyway.
I'm not the brawniest son of Hephaestus around, but apparently I'm one of the smartest, especially for being so young. And my brothers and sisters from cabin 9 said that I'd bulk up after a couple of years in the forge. Assuming I manage to live that long. Real encouraging bunch.
But I did take to working the anvil pretty well. It's actually the only thing I'm good at in camp (My first try at the lava wall was a terrifying experience for everyone involved. We don't like to talk about it.). Pretty soon I was getting requests from people from most of the cabins for custom weapons, especially after seeing the carnage caused by the Celestial Bronze frying pan I made for Punzie's birthday. I've never seen anyone so happy to receive custom cookware before.
But of course, this is me we're talking about, so it didn't take long for me to find myself in trouble either. I saw some sons of Ares "playing" with a baby dragon one day, and it was pretty badly hurt. Dunno how they got it in, or if they'd put it in that condition or just found it, but...Having been bullied my whole life as well made me feel for it. So I did the noble thing and tried to defend it.
...Naturally, they turned their attention to me and proceeded to beat the snot out of me. But it took their attention off the dragon long enough for it to sneak away. I managed to track it down later after I finished picking my teeth up off the ground though and looked after it. It's wings were broken and it was likely dying. I couldn't stand to see a creature so young treated this way. Especially one that wasn't inherently evil like some other monsters.
Soooo I broke the rules. I fashioned an automation body for it and managed to transfer it's soul, it's essence, into the machine in order to save it's life. The dragon's original body crumbled to dust almost immediately after, leaving no evidence of what I did, and I told no one what my creation really was, instead insisting that it was nothing more than an automation pet, which I dubbed "Toothless".
Toothless' new mechanical body is no bigger than an average cat, but including the tail, about a meter in length. He likes to nap around my shoulders most of the time. He doesn't have any teeth, hence the name, but can breathe fire, which is pretty useful while I work in the forge.
I'm currently trying to work on a way to create a larger body for him, so I can bring him on missions, if I ever get one...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Weapons: A shield made from Celestial Bronze that shrinks to a decorative plate on his armband when not in use. He modified the shield to transform into a crossbow as well. He also has a Celestial Bronze dagger, but rarely uses it.
Powers: He doesn't have any fire resistances or the natural bulk of the usual children of Hephaestus. But he has the mind of an inventor. Give him a general idea, and he can work it out and build it. He can take one look at a machine, and know how to fix it, or destroy it. And he was able to transfer a dragon's soul into an automation at the age of thirteen, if that counts for anything...
